Millions of BMW vehicles with Takata airbags recalled

Some 1.6 million models of BMW vehicles are being recalled due to faulty airbag systems made by Takata, an article in Tech Times stated on July 21.

Reports said BMW issued the recall of their 2000-2006 3 Series vehicles due to the potential for injuries that could result from a crash due to faulty airbags. When activated, the Takata airbags in the recalled vehicles may burst and may release metal bits that may hit the passenger. BMW found out in a probe that the issue was caused by poor preparation of explosive propellant in the inflator box. Reports of injuries involving the affected 3 Series were unknown to BMW before they issued the recall. Several large automakers have already issued recalls of their vehicles equipped with Takata airbags.
