Thousands of bed handles recalled following three deaths

More than 100,000 bed handles intended to assist the elderly getting into their beds are being recalled in connection to three deaths, an article by the Kansas City Star stated on May 20.

Reports said an estimated 113,000 compact bed handles manufactured and distributed by Bed Handles Inc. between 1994 and 2007 were being recalled for safety reasons. Three women, two at facilities for the elderly and one disabled woman, died after becoming trapped in the mechanism. The bed handles may unexpectedly move out of place if straps are not fastened properly. Owners of the affected bed handles were warned to immediately stop using the products and contact the firm to get a strap for free.
