Alabama unemployment rate declines to lowest number since 2008

The state of Alabama has seen a drop in the unemployment rate, matching the lowest rate since 2008. In March, the unemployment rate in Alabama was recorded at 7.3 percent, which is down from the February rating of 7.5 percent.

One year ago, there were 203,799 residents of Alabama without jobs. The current rate of individuals that are not gainfully employed, as of March, sits at 157,378, which is down from the month of February as well.

Birmingham saw a decrease in it’s unemployment numbers as well. More residents in the metro area are finding work, and therefore the jobless rate has declined from 7.1 percent in February to 6.5 percent in March. The numbers also indicate that less people are being fired from their professions due to the slowly increasing economy.
