A Birmingham City University student was walking near Newtown Row when a police car in the area collided with him. This pedestrian accident happened around 7 p.m. last Wednesday night.
An unmarked police car, with two uniformed officers inside, struck the 24-year-old student from China right outside the Newtown shopping centre. The student sustained serious injuries at the scene of the accident, and was immediately transported by paramedics to a local hospital. The severe head and back injuries that he sustained led to his death one day after the initial collision.
West Midlands Police have launched an official investigation into the circumstances leading up to the fatal accident. Police are reviewing footage from inside the patrol vehicle, as well as questioning witnesses that were in the area at the time. Police are still seeking any other witnesses that may have seen anything that day, and are asking them to contact the West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit with any information.
