A one year-old child was killed earlier this week when the car he was riding in was rear-ended on U.S. 72 near Cherokee. The baby was taken to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham where he died later that day.
According to officials, the driver of the car, the baby’s 18 year-old mother, had slowed down for bicyclist on the side of the road when a 19 year-old man crashed into them. The impact was so strong that the child’s car seat was thrown to the front of the car.
The mother and the 21 year-old father, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Our thoughts are with the child’s family at this time.
