Two women killed in crash on US 280

Ruby Brown, 74, and her daughter, Laura Campbell, 55, of west Birmingham were killed in a car accident on Friday morning on US Route 280.

At 6:15am, a company pickup truck driven by Patrick Harrison, 30, of Gardendale, was driving westbound near the Lakeshore Drive exit of US 280 and crossed the median colliding head-on with Campbell’s SUV.  According to police, the pickup burst into flames as did the front end of the SUV.  A small car and MAX truck was also hit in the collision.

Brown died at the scene, and Campbell was rushed to UAB hospital where she died shortly after arrival.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
