Woman falls asleep while driving and crashes

Jean Diethrich, 56, of Strong, crashed her vehicle in the woods off U.S. Route 2 Tuesday morning.

Deithrich was driving east toward Mercer when she fell asleep at the wheel of her Chrysler PT Cruiser and turned off the road into trees next to the highway, according to police.  She was rushed to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for minor injuries.

The rescue team had to cut away branches and small trees to get to Deithrich’s vehicle.  She was then cut out of her car.  Authorities don’t believe she exceeded the 50mph speed limit, and said she was wearing her seatbelt.
